How do I set up Windows Live for Netspeed mail?

Before you begin

If you are connecting to the internet through an ISP that has a 'mail via our server only' policy, like Xtra and Ihug have, then setup with 'Option One' won't work and you will need to try 'Option Two' below

Option One

  1. Open your Windows Live Mail program.

  2. From the main menu click the 'Accounts' tab and then the 'Properties' option and select your Netspeed email account.

  3. In the pop up box that opens click the 'Servers' tab and add a tick the 'My Server Requires Authentication' check box for the 'Outgoing Mail Server'.

  4. Click the 'Advanced' tab and change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" server port number to 465 and tick the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" checkbox for the outgoing mail server only.

  5. Then click 'OK' button.

Option Two

You will need to change the send mail server (SMTP) in the email account profile on your computer so that it matches the recommended setting of the internet provider that you are connecting through.

Your normal send mail server is smtp.netspeed.net.nz and if for example you are now connecting through Earthlink, their SMTP server MIGHT be called smtp.earthlink.com so while you are at that location just change it to the Earthlink SMTP server and when you get back just change it back to the Netspeed one.

  1. Open your Windows Live Mail program.

  2. From the main menu click the 'Accounts' tab and then the 'Properties' option and select your Netspeed email account

  3. Your normal setup should look like this...

  4. Change the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to the one that the ISP that you are connecting through recommends.

If this doesn't work or you are having problems sending emails please contact the ISP that you are connecting through.

Don't forget to change it back to the Netspeed SMTP when you get home.
